The most secure means of sending data is by using a web protocol known as 'Post'. By using this method the data is actually encrypted into the document, so when you refresh the screen it receives the data again. With less sophisticated systems this can cause a potential problem of having a transaction recorded twice. That is why all browser manufacturers warn you about the potential dangers of this action. All XBT systems use 'Post' data significantly and many safeguards are included to make sure that data could never be posted twice. It is therefore completely safe to ignore this message on any XBT powered system.
Whenever an XBT application communicates outside of itself, we create an 'interface' for that purpose. If you are communicating with another XBT system, this interface will be much faster than any other alternative. If you need to communicate with a system using XML, or any other portal standard, your Janor Solution will talk to it at least as fast as any XML application would. If you need to output E-mails or Faxes, or if you just have to print a form and mail to someone, an XBT interface can handle it all. If anyone you communicate with ever changes the way that they communicate, we simply change their interface, and nothing else in your system needs to change.
Your Janor Solution will be deployed on a UNIX based server at our sever farm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. From the point of view of natural disasters, Edmonton is one of the safest places on earth. Servers based on the UNIX family of operating systems (which includes Sun Solaris, and Mac OS10) are much harder to hack, and less prone to viruses than some other alternatives. Nightly backups of all your data are made and stored off site in Edmonton. Our server farm has UPS power control, with generator backup, climate controlled environment, waterless fire suppression, and 24 hour per day, 7 day per week monitoring by professional systems administrators. We also include your domain registration, hosting, unlimited band width (except for video and other large formats) and your XBT license for unlimited users. All for less than the price of leasing and unsupported server.
The XBT Engine, and all applications developed using it, are certified to work perfectly in any W3C compliant browser. However, since there are NO W3C compliant browsers, we have also tested every function to make sure they run perfectly in Microsoft Internet Explorer (8 or higher), Apple Safari and FireFox from Mozilla on both platforms. This has resulted in some minor cosmetic anomalies because of the compromises we have had to use to achieve this goal. However, we are very certain that if you have a browser, written in this millennium, everything should work perfectly. And we will continue to upgrade the XBT engine, as more browsers become W3C compliant, so that these minor problems will simply disappear as it becomes possible.
The XBT Engine DOES change the functionality of your browser. If you are used to using Web applications, you will still find most of the functionality to be the same. The most noticeable exceptions will be that the TAB key will not let you leave a data entry form, and pressing ENTER will not automatically submit your form. You can still click anywhere you want, and the cursor will move if you have not left some invalid data in a field. This functionality has been changed to make XBT perform more like the systems that have evolved for this purpose for over the past 50 years. If you have used any of the major Client/Sever systems for data management (Oracle, IBM, MS/SQL Server) you will find XBT to behave much more like those. The ENTER key will also move your cursor after entering a value in an input field, but will function the same as a mouse click on a button or link. This change allows you to input the data for a form, save it, and clear the screen for another, by just pressing ENTER after each entry, and again when the cursor moves to the save and add buttons. If you use data entry forms a lot, you will quickly find that this method is much more efficient, and less stressful, than having to move between your mouse and the keyboard all the time.
To use XBT produced pages you must have SESSION COOKIES ALLOWED and you must have JavaScript ENABLED. Some people today have these features disabled in the belief that they cause some security threat. Although it is true that there are many threats on the Web, and we must be ever vigilant, cookies and JavaScript are the least of the worries. Cookies in general are just text strings that pose no threat to your system, and can only be seen by the server that created them. Session cookies are even less of a worry, because they only last for one session; as soon as you close your browser, they go away. But, without them, we cannot keep your session secure. JavaScript, unlike Java and Flash, does not have any access to your local machine. It only functions within your browser and cannot do anything outside of it. Do not confuse JavaScript with Java Applets, even though the names sound similar, they are totally different things. JavaScript cannot even see your computer, whereas Java Applets (and Flash as well) use code installed on your computer, and CAN access your system.
